From Head Knowledge to Heart Experience

I grew up knowing about Jesus: the stories, the verses, and the doctrines. But my faith had not yet made the “12‑inch journey” from my head to my heart.

One of the seeds God planted in me came at Young Life’s Frontier Ranch. While I was rappelling down a 120‑foot cliff, I lost my rhythm with the rope and ended up hanging upside down. The equipment held me, and I was safe.

Years later, that moment became a metaphor for my faith. I was connected to Christ, but I was not yet trusting Him, abiding, or walking with Him.

The Jesus Who Walks with Us

Luke 24 tells about two disciples walking to Emmaus. They were disappointed and ready to move on,

“We had hoped…” (Luke 24:21)

Jesus joined them. He listened. He explained. He stayed. He revealed Himself.

This is the Jesus who meets us in disappointment. This is the Jesus who walks beside us. This is the Jesus who turns disillusionment into joy.

Abiding in Christ

“I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

Jesus is the source. We are the branches. Life flows from Him. Fruit grows in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self‑control.

Abiding is the connection that holds everything together.

When we abide, we trust. When we trust, we obey. When we obey, we bear fruit. When we bear fruit, we experience His joy.

The Triune Life

Walking with Christ. Resting in the Father’s love. Being empowered by the Spirit.

This is not abstract theology. It is lived experience.

Jesus is the doorway into the Father’s love. Jesus is the giver of the Spirit’s power. Jesus is the center of the Triune relationship.

The Invitation: The 12‑Inch Journey

My story is about the 12‑inch journey, moving from knowing about Jesus to truly knowing Him.

Jesus is not distant. He is not theoretical. He is not silent.

He is the risen Christ who walks beside you. He is the vine who gives you life. He is the Shepherd who guides you. He is the Friend who stays with you.

Walk with Him. Abide in Him. Experience Him.

He is already walking with you.
